Sigrid McCausland Emerging Writers Award

The Archives & Manuscripts Sigrid McCausland Emerging Writers Award recognises the work of emerging writers who have published an article in the journal. Each year the members of the Archives & Manuscripts editorial board decide the winner of this award, which features a $1000 cash payment.

Award winners are announced at the ASA Annual National Conference each year, and the award will be for the volume of the journal published in the preceding calendar year.

Authors are encouraged to nominate for the award themselves when they submit an article to the journal by confirming that they meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible, an author must:

  • have their article accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed section of the journal (see journal Aims and Scope statement for information about what kinds of articles the journal seeks to publish).

and be an emerging writer who is:

  • currently enrolled in a graduate program or within 3 years after the date of graduation, and/or
  • has previously published fewer than 5 peer-reviewed articles in an archives/recordkeeping journal.

The winner of the Award will be decided by the General Editor in consultation with the Editorial Board.

Sigrid McCausland

The Award honours Dr Sigrid McCausland, Fellow of the ASA, who passed away on 30 November 2016. Sigrid was involved in the ASA over many years and was a key member of the editorial committee that assembled the landmark first edition of Keeping Archives and later served on the Editorial Board for Archives and Manuscripts. She was involved in accreditation of the education courses over many years, including during 2005-07 when she served as ASA Education Officer.

More recently, Sigrid had been instrumental in the success of the Master and Bachelor programs in archives and records management at the School of Information Management at Charles Sturt University. The success of that program no doubt reflects Sigrid's wonderful skills as a teacher and mentor as well as her passion for archives and education.
