In 2025 we were approached by this issue’s Guest Editors about the possibility of a special issue reflecting on the work that has taken place in our sector since the signing of the Tandanya Declaration in 2019, with content created for and inspired by a 2024 symposium alongside the ASA Conference. We were both eager to advance this discussion and reflection, and have supported the production of the special issue over the last year. We thank especially the collective of Guest Editors for their dedication to progressing the publication of these key discussions, and the authors whose work is the core of this issue.

This year we welcome three new members to the Editorial Board; Nicola Laurent, Dr Mike Jones and Dr Nicholas Sparks. All three bring extensive experience in both professional practice and academia, and we look forward to working with the Board over the coming months. Louise Trott has also joined Archives and Manuscripts as the Managing Editor, which will expand the ability of the General Editors to focus on the curation and editing of upcoming issues.

This issue is also the last issue for co-General Editor Dr Jessie Lymn, who is stepping down after four years in the role. Jessie has shepherded Archives and Manuscripts to an open access publishing model, working closely with the production team at Open Academia and the PKP Open Journal System team to ensure the entire back issues of the journal are available freely. Jessie thanks the ASA Council for their support in these endeavors, and wishes Angela Schilling and the new Editorial team all the best with future issues.
