EDITORIAL

 

 

Welcome to Volume 51 Number 1, the first issue published for 2023. In 2023, we (Angela Schilling and Dr Jessie Lymn) were appointed as co-General Editors of Archives and Manuscripts by the Australian Society of Archivists Council, and we look forward to further expanding the realms of publishing in the Australian archival context. We thank members this year for their patience as we finalise the Volume 50 print copies and look forward to smoother processes as we continue to embed publishing processes into the journal’s production.

This current issue has been Guest Edited by Adrian Cunningham, whose Editorial features on the next pages. The publication of the series of papers delivered at the Documenting Australian Society seminars over the past few years documents the conversations emerging as the archival and wider historical professions engage with the challenges of the project. We encourage further discussion and engagement on the articles and welcome response articles for future issues.

We plan to include one special issue each year and encourage proposals to be submitted to the General Editors (journaleditor@archivists.org.au). We also encourage practitioners and academics to continue to submit their work to the journal and are happy to discuss any potential article ideas with you.

We are also proud to launch a new cover design for the journal. This issue’s cover features an image from Jennifer Jerome’s reflection piece on the Tasmanian Archives, and we note that future issues will follow suit, highlighting an image from one of the issue’s articles.
